PCIAW® is happy to announce that Bodd, a company transforming uniform sizing with innovative 3D body scanning, will be exhibiting at APEX / IFSA Global Expo from 28th – 30th October as part of the PCIAW® Pavillion. Bodd’s technology offers a swift, accurate solution to the often cumbersome process of fitting airline uniforms. By combining advanced scanning with smart algorithms, Bodd provides instant size matching for a comprehensive range of garments.
In a recent interview with Bodd, PCIAW® explored how their technology is streamlining uniform distribution, enhancing employee experience, and supporting sustainability in professional apparel. Read on to discover how Bodd’s solutions will have a positive impact on the future of airline uniforms.

Please introduce your company and your products/services for the airline industry.
Bodd is a 3D body scanning and uniform sizing company that operates in North America, Europe, Middle East and Australia. Bodd services the airline industry, emergency services and even the Defence sectors.
Bodd’s easy to use, self-serve 3D scanners provide an Instant size match for any clothing product – helping airlines increase productivity for sizing large work forces. The Bodd scanning experience can reduce traditional 1-2 hour fitting times down to 60 seconds.
Bodd’s scanners are plug and play – they simply connect to power and wifi and an organisation can be sizing in a matter of minutes. The private and self-serve nature of Bodd means that airline employees can be sized at a time that is convenient for them – scanners are typically deployed across recruitment centres, staff lounges or major airport hubs.
Bodd’s scanners guide each employee through the simple scan process – what to wear, how to stand and how to position themselves. The turn-table base carefully rotates the individual, with voiceover cues assisting them through the process. Smart pose detection technology can even detect if someone has moved slightly during the scan process.
The sizing technology developed by Bodd allows an airline to define corporate brand guidelines or fit rules that determine how the garment should be worn, in line with the original design intent. This approach allows an organisation to deploy a ‘uniform’ look across an entire workforce efficiently.

Does your company focus on below-the-wing or above-the-wing wearers – or both?
Both!
As a sizing solution, Bodd’s sophisticated technology captures up to 400+ ISO standard body landmarks and measurements. Bodd’s technology then applies proprietary algorithms to match each individual’s unique body shape to the best possible fit for garments in line with the defined corporate fit standards, relevant to the individual’s workgroup or allocation.
Garments for any division or workgroup can be loaded into Bodd’s sizing platform and an organisation can easily determine what garments a scanned individual should be sized for.
What is it about your technology which makes you stand out in the airline industry – what is new or innovative about your offering?
Bodd is the only uniform sizing solution that can size head to toe from a single scan – dedicated lenses capture high fidelity regions of the body to accurately size everything from shirts, blouses, pants and jackets, right through to shoes and accessories, such as headwear and belts.
The technology used in Bodd’s scanners is non-intrusive (e.g. no Mm Wave or X-Ray technology) so it’s safe for everyone. Additionally, Bodd’s technology is private by design and no Personal Information (PI) is ever requested or stored by Bodd – each scan session is totally anonymous with no video or photography stored. Bodd’s technology is built on military-grade infrastructure which is why it is trusted by some of the world’s most reputable brands.
Scanners are made by Bosch and Bodd’s business model provides airlines with 3D scanners at no upfront cost. Merchants incur no capex; but commit to a per-scan SaaS agreement.

How can your products/services support airline buyers to cater to diverse workforces?
At its core, Bodd is a real 3D scan. The technology uses no predictive questionnaires or AI to “guess” someone’s body shape – the scan is a 1:1 replica of each individual’s unique shape and size.
Bodd’s sizing technology supports inclusive design and sizing – for example supporting male garment sizing for females and vice versa. Additionally, Bodd’s sizing technology handles unisex sizing formats out of the box.
Most importantly, Bodd’s scanning technology is private & anonymous – giving people of all genders and abilities peace of mind that they will be treated equally through their sizing experience.
What sustainability innovations is your company able to offer airline uniforms and PPE?
Bodd delivers accurate sizing for large workforces which means fewer returns & less waste – this is better for our airline customers and ultimately, better for the planet.
Through accurate sizing of workforce populations, airlines can produce or procure less product via efficient allocation of stock and inventory.

How can your company support the airline’s industry mission to improve supply chain resilience?
Supply chains globally are under pressure – labour is tight and skills are hard to find. Bodd helps airlines reduce employee downtime significantly – ensuring less time is spent on sizing activities both for the employees being sized, but also any staff involved in sizing programs or uniform rollouts.
Bodd can be deployed as a totally self-serve solution, meaning that in some situations staff don’t even need to be deployed to manage fittings and sizing activities.
From a product design and development perspective, Bodd allows airlines to gain a deep insight into the distribution of shape and size across their workforce – this not only helps airlines better determine order volumes, but can also give feedback into product design teams to rapidly iterate on product patterns and technical designs. Better fitting functional apparel means that staff are wearing safer garments and ensures they can perform their roles adequately.
Coupled with Bodd’s sizing technology is the capability for airlines to garner unique health and wellness insights on employee population (only if these features are activated). Most large airlines are insurance underwriters too, so having an employee population that is healthy is critical. The data derived from Bodd can play a role in ensuring staff are healthy, happy and safe through reduced sick days, lower staff turnover and even mitigating long term chronic illness.
