Greenful on Winning Circular Technology PCIAW® Awards 2025

Greenful textile recycling technology and circular materials award

What does it mean for Greenful Group to be recognised with the Circular Technology Award at the PCIAW Awards?

This award means a great deal to Greenful to be recognized by such a prestigious organization such as PCIAW in the field of professional clothing. The award recognizes our unique solution to the recycling of textile waste that we hope PCIAW members look to for disposal of their used clothing in an eco friendly way. We also believe it serves as an example to the industry of “thinking outside of the box” when it comes to recycling options. We all need more of this approach !

Can you outline the challenge your award entry set out to solve and how your technology addresses the issue of end-of-life garment waste?

The award recognizes that there are currently very few good solutions to the recycling of textile waste at scale, both for professional clothing and everyday consumer clothing. In a nutshell, Greenful takes the textile waste and shreds it into fine fibers that are combined with plastic waste and processed into solid composite building panels. Textile to textile recycling, while a good idea, is nowhere near ready to meet the challenge of the mountains of waste flooding the environment. Greenful represents a very real and scalable solution that can be used today. The best part about it is that we take all types of textile waste and the waste does not need to be sorted or pre processed by the supplier, just sent to us and we do the rest.

What makes Greenful Group’s approach to transforming unsorted textile and plastic waste different from traditional recycling methods?

As mentioned earlier, the biggest benefit of the Greenful process is that we take all types of waste, natural and synthetics, and the waste does not need to be sorted. This saves a huge amount of time and cost. Most other recycling methods, such as textile to textile, require sorting of the materials by type before they can be recycled, and they only take one kind of fiber. So Greenful is truly a big step forward in this sense. Regarding plastic waste, it should be noted that Greenful does not itself collect and recycle the waste but works with partners who do this and provide the finished plastic input that we then use in our panel.

How does converting textile waste into recyclable construction materials contribute to a more circular system for the clothing and textile industry?

The recycling of textile waste into construction materials is an enormous advantage, in our opinion. First, just the volumes involved. It takes a very large amount of construction materials to construct homes and buildings, so this requires high volumes of textile waste to be recycled. Second, our technology for making construction materials does not require the sorting of textile waste, sorry to repeat this point again, but it is a tremendous advantage for the textile industry. It should be noted that Greenful is not trying to replace textile to textile recycling but rather provide an alternate method that can be used right now. We support textile to textile recycling but it is not ready yet to work at scale, and there is so much waste in the world that there is enough for everyone.

What impact do you believe innovations like this could have on reducing textile waste at scale?

We believe it can have a very significant impact! There are no technological limits to the recycling of textile waste with our methods, and no negative by-products of our process, such as air emissions, water pollution, or waste materials. All we use is renewable energy to make our product. The only barrier to recycling all the textile waste in the world is building enough Greenful factories to do it!

Looking ahead, how does this award win influence Greenful Group’s future and continued innovation in circular technology?

Greenful believes winning this award validates our process and provides great visibility to PCIAW members and the general public of our textile waste solution. In that regard we think the award will help accelerate our growth and bring in more new customers. The award also spurs us on to innovate new products with the same mission, to find new ways of recycling waste streams into products useful for society.
