How to Prevent Workplace Violence

Workplace violence is a concern that should not be underestimated by both employers and  employees. 
It is defined by OSHA as “violence or the threat of violence against co-workers, and it can happen at or outside the workplace. It can range from threats and verbal abuse to  physical assaults and homicides. About two million workers are victims of workplace violence each year.”
Prevention programmes, established procedures and employees’ manuals should be available in every workplace in order to recognise a threat and be able to face it more appropriately. All employees should be able to know their rights and duties, as well as how to best protect themselves.  Video surveillance, identification badges, and alarm systems are just few of the many precautions available in order to prevent workplace violence.
Safety training programs are also another effective option in the hand of employers to create a safer environment for their workers.
