PCIAW® visits Health and Safety Event 2024

In the world of professional clothing it’s vitally important to have an ear on the ground and meet the innovators driving change, which is why on Wednesday 1st May the PCIAW® team visited the Health and Safety Event to learn more trends and changes in workwear and PPE.

PCIAW® spoke with over 20 different exhibitors and attending companies, including Totectors, Fristads, Blåkläder, MSA, Uvex, Leo Workwear and many more.

One of the key developments we noticed at this year’s exhibition was the growing number of workwear providers offering products with recycled material and end-of-life solutions. Fristads, for example, spoke to us about the work they are doing with the Dutch postal service to recycle their uniforms on a textile-to-textile basis, now offering some products with up to 15% recycled material from end-of-life garments.

In addition to a more sustainable focus, many workwear companies are also offering an expanded women’s range, with the impression of more women’s safety footwear and workwear on display at the show this year compared to 2023.

Another theme emerging at this year’s show was a focus on supply chain transparency, with many exhibitors explaining that they have improved their ability to conform to new EPR legislation. They have achieved this by typically acquiring their own production facilities or working more closely with their manufacturers to ensure their products are made without forced labour and with ethical materials. With instability in the Asia-Pacific region growing there is a rise in the number of manufacturers moving to European and near-east facilities, and if current trends continue we can expect this to increase in coming years.

UK and European readers should note that many of the Scandinavian workwear manufacturers we spoke to stated they are expanding their focus on the UK as a market, so there will be many opportunities this year to meet large companies from this region such as Blåkläder who were exhibiting at the Health and Safety Event for the first time this year.

Thank you to the exhibitors we spoke to this year, the team had a great time catching up with the innovators shaping workwear and PPE, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.
