PULSAR® Reaction to Hi-Vis PPE Innovation Award

PULSAR high-visibility PPE innovation and protective workwear

PULSAR® is a specialist manufacturer of high-performance protective workwear, known for combining certified safety standards with comfort, durability and increasingly sustainable design.

What does it mean for your business to be recognised and awarded in a global ceremony like the PCIAW® Awards?

Securing another PCIAW® Award stands as an affirmation of PULSAR®’s ongoing commitment to excellence. As a company that has spent decades advancing high-performance, environmentally responsible protective apparel, global acknowledgement reinforces the value of our long-standing commitment to innovation, safety and quality. It validates the work of our teams and strengthens customer confidence that PULSAR® continues to set industry benchmarks.

Give an outline about the award entry and the customer objectives or challenges that the design, innovation, and technology helped to improve?

Our entry focused on the PULSAR® REACT waterproof collection, developed to address the real-world challenges faced by real workers across industries including rail, utilities, construction and infrastructure. End users require hi-vis PPE that combines EN ISO 20471:2013+A1:2016 CLASS 3 visibility, all-weather protection, durability, and genuine comfort during long shifts. At the same time, customers increasingly want sustainable solutions without compromising performance. REACT was engineered to meet these needs, offering exceptional waterproofing, breathability and ergonomic functionality while also pioneering circularity through mono-material construction.

How does PULSAR’s REACT Range leverage textile and garment design innovations to improve wearer comfort and mobility?

The PULSAR® REACT waterproofs incorporate design principles inspired by sportswear and outdoor performance clothing. A lightweight two-layer laminate with stretch improves freedom of movement, while refined fits and ergonomic trims enhance practicality. Coated waterproof zips, upgraded pocket systems and storm flaps are integrated without adding bulk. Breathability ratings of 21,000gm² and low RET values provide excellent moisture management, ensuring comfort during physically demanding tasks.

PULSAR’s REACT Range pioneers ‘textile-to-textile recycling.’ What makes the use of ‘mono-material fabrics’ critical to this circular process?

Most PPE becomes difficult to recycle due to mixed fibres and adhesives. REACT resolves this by using polyester throughout, including an 80% GRS-certified recycled face fabric, polyester membrane and 100% polyester adhesive. This simplified structure allows the garments to be efficiently processed at end-of-life, enabling true textile-to-textile recycling and reducing waste across the supply chain.

What impact does an accolade like the PCIAW® Award have on the teams of people who contributed to the winning product or service, and how has the team celebrated this achievement?

The award directly recognises the Product Development and Sustainability team’s efforts and the innovation they delivered through REACT. The collection features our first intentionally produced mono-fibre products, developed from the outset with recyclability in mind, and the recognition validates the bold design and material decisions behind it. The team celebrated the achievement and took great pride in seeing their work recognised on a global stage.

Looking ahead, how does this award win influence your company’s strategy and future innovation pipeline?

The win reinforces our strategic direction: to accelerate innovation in sustainable, high-performance PPE. It motivates us to expand circular design principles across our ranges, ensuring we continue leading the industry into a more responsible future.
