SPINNOVA® Granted Funds for Textile Waste Research

Business Finland provides R&D funding for the production of SPINNOVA® fibre from textile and agricultural waste streams

Business Finland has granted Spinnova research and development funding of up to EUR 1.9 million for the period 15.4.2023–14.4.2025. This is a grant of EUR 3.9 million for 50% of the project’s total cost estimate.

The aim of the product development project is to enable the production of SPINNOVA® fibre from textile and agricultural waste streams on a pilot scale. The resulting grinding environment can also be used to recycle SPINNOVA® fibre. The R&D project aims to expand Spinnova’s technology offering with grinding and fibre recycling components that could be used by factories producing SPINNOVA® fibre. This opens up new strategic opportunities for Spinnova to expand its business. More energy-efficient grinding is also expected to improve the competitiveness of SPINNOVA® fibre.

“Business Finland’s grant supports our development work to be even more sustainable and competitive in the future as we can offer technology that enables the use of several circular economy raw materials in textile fibre production,” says Juha Salmela, Spinnova’s CTO and co-founder.
