In case you didn’t get the memo, retro runners are looking set to become one of the biggest footwear trends of 2023, and New Balance is absolutely paving the way. Having dominated the sneaker scene over the past year or so thanks to successful releases such as the 550, 2002R and the Made in USA 990 series, the Boston brand has brought back its 1906R silhouette to strengthen its roster even more.
Thoughts of retro runners tend to revolve around dad-style silhouttes, breathable mesh and metallic accents, and of course New Balance’s 1906R is no stranger to any of these. Howeverm the model’s latest makeover is a more toned-down version of the above, as this new pack has been dressed up in CORDURA for a more rugged finish.
Arriving in two earth-toned colourways of “Khaki” and “Beige”, the upcoming New Balance 1906R CORDURA pack is more military than marathon runner-inspired. Boasting uppers crafted from the hardwearing fabric, they take on a minimalist, tonal look that’s ready to be put through its paces. As usual, this sits atop New Balance’s famed N-ERGY-infused midsole for a comfy underfoot feel.
Right now it’s rumoured that the New Balance 1906R CORDURA pack could be a Japan-exclusive, but be sure to keep it locked to The Sole Supplier for more info as it comes in. In the meantime, check out the 990 colourways that could go on to be future classics.
